Electrodes inside common Lithium ion batteries are classical examples of granular system. Such system consists of much coarser active electrode particles with various size, distribution and morphology alongside in between space filled with finer binder and conductor particles. The performance and structural integrity of the Lithium bat-

teries is very much dependent upon relevant properties of such packed system. For example, the specific energy density increases with packing density but the transport properties are adversely affected by it. Classical multiscale battery models like P2D or single particle (SP) incorporates these properties as scalar quantities based on empirical relation like Bruggeman’s law to reduce the computational effort. Such laws lack complexity to represent the actual behaviour of pore space inside the granular system. The dynamic change of properties of granular system also affects the battery performance over the cycle. Hence, current aim is to investigate complex pore network structure based on Representative Volume Element (RVE) generation and homogenization method to get more realistic approximation. In this work, different pore morphologies like spherical, ellipsoidal or cubic shape are investigated and focus is given to variation of their effective properties with porosities. The numerically calculated results are then compared with classical analytical formulation. RVEs are generated artificially via Molecular Dynamics simulation, in-house algorithm and also based on more realistic sectioned tomographic images. Both open pores and closed pore system are investigated. Due to complication with applying periodic boundary with open pore system, window method was investigated where the microstructure sample is embedded inside a homogeneous medium. Then, the effective properties are calculated in a self consistent manner. Relevant representative parameters like effective diffusivity , geometrical tortousity, volume-specific surface area, anisotropy etc for comparison of different electrode microstrucrures are presented in the current study. For all solid state battery system, the effective mechanical properties of such system could be also of interest via chemo-mechanical coupling.
