WEB Superhydrophobic functional Coatings with high Temperature Stability and UV protection

The technology of superhydrophobic ceramic coatings with self-cleaning properties gained strong attention during recent years, especially for industrial applications. Impurities on treated materials is easier removed which reduce maintenance costs and offers a green alternative to the usage of aggressive cleaning agents. In this regard, the control over surface properties and chemical structure is mandatory for the development of new materials which can help to increase eco-friendly materials. Nonetheless, the potential of commercial products is immense and their market truly global, but the wide range of possible application is limited by the low temperature stability of these coatings. In this work, a route for the preparation of a superhydrophobic coating with high temperature stability and additional UV-protection will be presented. [Mg{Al(OiPr)4}2] was used as precursor to form spinel nanoparticles through sol-gel method. After subsequent functionalization transparent superhydrophobic films with contact angle for water close to 180° after temperature treatment were preserved.
